I'm getting close to firing up an A318 Poly that I put in my '68 D100.
As I'm using a '70 cab, I'm also then using the later wiring harness.
The alternator is original equipment to the Poly ['66 vintage] and is
a single field. My wiring has what I'm assuming to be a second field
wire [orange with a female spade connector]. It is not the temperature
gauge line, as that is already in place. In reviewing the wiring diagrams
in the electrical tech section on the Sweptline.com archive, they indicate
only the battery wire and one field wire [light green]. The '70/'71 harness
is set up for the later electronic voltage regulator. The '66 alternator has
one field post, one ground post [no spade connector currently there... just
the phillips screw] and the battery stud. I have two or three '77 vintage
dual field alternators I can install if need be. I'm currently running points
but, eventually, will go with a MoPar Performance E.I. set up. Which
alternator should I use? I don't want to bake my wiring harness.
